I smile big when Nicholas Zarate pulls out a pouch of Big League Chew. Images of my 7th-grade classmates passing the stuff around while trading baseball cards behind the school are front and center.“It’s like, a baseball gum,” he tells me.“That came out when I was a kid.”“Yeah, I know this stuff is very old.”“Ouch,” I say, laughing.Zarate is 20. So, you know, perspective. He says it’s a top seller among the truly vast selection of retro candies they’re slinging at Rocket Fizz in Winter Park.Big League Chew hit the market in 1980 (the year I turned 10, for the record) and I’ve always marveled that while candy cigarettes took a lot of heat when smoking became super un-PC, this novelty — clearly marketed to mimic the dip, or “chewing tobacco,” long favored by baseball players before its eventual ban — never seemed to suffer.Smoke ’em if you got ’em. Those three states are also among the states that prevent Medicaid — the public health insurance for people with low incomes — from paying for key aspects of such care for patients of all ages.More than a quarter of trans adults surveyed by KFF and The Washington Post late last year said they had moved to a different neighborhood, city, or state to find more acceptance. LONDON (AP) — Chicago Cubs manager David Ross said players do better “when they’re having fun.”There was plenty of that to go around Friday when the Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals held workouts at London Stadium ahead of a two-game weekend series.Shaking off jet lag, players in batting practice took aim for the outfield seats that spell out “West Ham” in the home of the Premier League club as MLB returns to the British capital in a renewed bid to grow internationally. The 16-foot centerfield wall — with Union Jack and American flags hanging high above — has been pushed back a bit after the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox cranked 10 homers in the first London series four years ago.The laid-back vibe — Formula One drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri of the McLaren team took BP — will be replaced with a more serious tone Saturday as both the Cardinals and Cubs resume their pursuit of the red-hot Cincinnati Reds in the NL Central. The big question is whether fans in the British...Medvedev beaten in Halle Open quarterfinals after Sinner retires with a muscle injury

The third-ranked Russian dropped to a 2-2 record on grass this season following his first-round loss at the Libema Open last week. Bautista Agut faces another Russian opponent, Andrey Rublev, in the semifinals after Rublev converted his fifth match point against Tallon Griekspoor to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and end a seven-match win streak for Griekspoor, the Libema Open winner.Organizers said Sinner retired from his match against Alexander Bublik after straining his adductor while trying to react to a drop shot from Bublik. CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) — Denny McCarthy set a new 36-hole course record by following up a first-round 60 with a 65 to extend his lead to four strokes after the morning rounds Friday at the Travelers Championship. The 30-year-old Maryland native started slowly, bogeying the second hole. But that was the only blemish on a round that included six birdies, five of them on the back nine. His two-day score of 125 is a stroke better than the first two rounds Xander Schauffele put up during his run to the title a year ago and Justin Rose’s first 36 holes in 2010, when he finished tied for ninth.“It’s nice, but golf tournaments aren’t 36 holes unfortunately,” McCarthy said. “I know there’s still a lot of golf left and I’m playing some really nice golf, so I’m looking forward to having fun this weekend.”McCarthy is trying to become the 18th player to pick up his first PGA Tour victory in Connecticut since Ken Duke did it in 2013.Eric Cole shot a 65 on Friday to...Latest news
