Check your phone: Popular Android app reportedly started spying on users, making recordings (NEXSTAR) - A screen recording app available in the Google Play store that was installed over 50,000 times functioned normally for months before it started spying on users, researchers say.The app, iRecorder – Screen Recorder, was first uploaded to the Google Play store on September 19, 2021, according to Lukas Stefanko, a malware researcher with cybersecurity firm ESET.Stefanko said that the app had no harmful features until a later update changed the code, likely in August 2022. After that date, malicious code allowed bad actors to make secret audio recordings and secretly transfer images, videos, saved web pages, and other files off of devices, according to ESET. Woman dies after an auto-pedestrian crash in San Marcos AUSTIN (KXAN) -- On May 17, an auto-pedestrian crash killed a 51-year-old woman, according to the San Marcos Police Department. Denise Sumbling, 51, was walking to work when she was hit by a pickup truck near the intersection of Highway 123 and East Access Road, per preliminary reports from the San Marcos Police Department Collision Investigation Team. The driver of the pickup truck, Daniel Verdin, 66, did not remain on the scene, according to SPMD. SMPD officers arrived on the scene around 9:45 p.m. on May 17 and pronounced Sumbling dead, a press release said. While SMPD was investigating the incident, Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office stopped Verdin's vehicle for speeding. Verdin was arrested on second-degree felony charges, per SMPD. This was San Marcos' third fatality collision of 2023. The San Marcos Police Collision Investigation Team said it is continuing its investigation.

Police investigate fatal shooting at Amazon Fresh store in Westchester Authorities are investigating what appears to be a fatal shooting in the parking lot of an Amazon Fresh store in Westchester on Tuesday.  Police responded to calls of a shooting in the 6800 block of La Cienega just after 4 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.  Footage from Sky5 showed a portion of the store’s parking lot cordoned off with a white canopy next to several parked cars. Suspect shot by police after violent rampage in Long Beach A man accused of assaulting five people in a bizarre, violent rampage in Long Beach was shot and wounded by police Tuesday, officials said.The incident was reported just before noon in the 4600 block of East 2nd Street near Livingston Park in an upscale community of the city, according to Long Beach Police.The suspect, described only as being 31 years old, allegedly punched a man and a woman in the 200 block of Park Avenue.
