STANFORD — Most teams would struggle if they were missing an All-American.Then again, most teams don’t have two All-Americans.With Cameron Brink missing the game because of an illness, Haley Jones had 17 points and six rebounds to lead No. 1 seed Stanford to a 92-49 win on Friday night over No. 16 seed Sacred Heart in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The senior — who was named a third-team All-American by the Associated Press (AP) this week — scored all 17 of her points in the first half on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Jones only played seven minutes in the second half as the Cardinal pulled away from the Pioneers. The Cardinal will play in the second round on Sunday, with the time still to be determined, against the winner of No. 8 seed Ole Miss and No. 9 seed Gonzaga’s game.Fellow senior Hannah Jump broke Stanford’s program record for 3-pointers in a single season when she beat the halftime buzzer from deep, with her third triple of the first half giving her 97 for the se...

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Antonio Reeves scored 22 points and Oscar Tshiebwe pulled down 25 rebounds in an overpowering display, helping Kentucky beat Providence 61-53 in Friday night’s first round of the NCAA Tournament.Tshiebwe’s rebounding work was the second-most in the tournament since 1973, and 11 of his rebounds came on the offensive glass — a big factor in the sixth-seeded Wildcats (22-11) staying in control as both offenses grinded to a halt after halftime. With the two-time Associated Press All-American grabbing just about every loose ball, Kentucky finished with a 48-31 rebounding advantage, controlling the offensive glass (plus-10) and dominating in second-chance points for an 18-2 edge.On a day when neither team shot well after halftime, that boardwork was vital to sending Kentucky on to face the Montana State-Kansas State winner Sunday in the East Region — a big turnaround from last year’s surprising first-round exit against 15th-seeded Saint Peter’...

(AP) — Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez badly missed weight for his scheduled fight with Gabriel Rosado on Friday, and their light heavyweight bout has been canceled.Ramirez (44-1, 30 KOs) was scheduled to return from the first defeat of his professional career as the headliner Saturday night at the Pyramid in Long Beach, California. PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland Thorns forward Janine Beckie tore a ligament in her right knee and will miss the National Women’s Soccer League season and the World Cup this summer with Canada. Beckie tore her ACL in a preseason game between the Thorns and the U.S. under-23 women’s national team Wednesday. She said “heartbroken is an understatement” in a post Friday on social media. “Having worked so hard during the off-season for what was set to be one of the biggest seasons of my career, defending the title for Portland Thorns and of course playing in the World Cup for Canada, being out for an extended period of time is a difficult pill to swallow,” she wrote. Beckie, 28, has played for the Canadian national team since 2014. She made her 101st appearance for Canada in a match against Japan last month in the team’s final match of the SheBelieves Cup tournament in Texas. Overall she has 36 goals for Canada, currently ranked sixth in the world. Beckie signed wi...

We lived in it for 15 years and our daughter was literally born upstairs,” Hiivala said. “It had a special place in my heart with all the community connection, the friends and just all the hard work that I put into the community that went up in flames." Altitude lawsuit settled, but still no games on Comcast Gov. Jared Polis, state Sen. Lisa Cutter, U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse, Insurance Commissioner Michael Conway and other local leaders talked about tax relief qualifications, state funding distribution and insurance hurdles."We have to have these standards in a world where climate change is impacting us in such huge ways, where we have fires like...
