Officers and personnel at the Bristol County House of Correction are dealing with an “incident” at the facility that started after authorities attempted to move inmates to different housing units, according to officials. In an update provided by the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office, officials said the incident occurred while staff were taking steps to make the facility “more suicide-resistant.”“Part of this process is moving inmates to different housing units,” an official with the sheriff’s office stated. “Friday morning, some inmates in one of the housing units did not want to move, leading to the current incident.”Details on the incident itself have been limited, with SKY7-HD spotting at least two dozen officers and staff monitoring a part of the jail from the outside. Some jail personnel could be seen using a riot shield to approach a section of windows that appeared to be blocked from inside the facility.A 7NEWS source referre...No injuries reported after explosion decimates home in Truro, sending shockwaves felt miles away

A home in Truro was reduced to its foundation after a massive, overnight explosion rocked neighboring communities for miles, according to officials. No injuries were reported after the structure was leveled, sending debris across the property and shockwaves that were felt by locals nearly 20 miles away.“Tremendous explosion, big flash of light – we weren’t sure what it was,” said Rich Roberts, who witnessed the event and described a secondary explosion that created a massive fireball. “We both got out of bed and looked around and, I thought it was lightening (that) hit, but of course it was a completely clear night. My wife thought it was an earthquake.”Neighbors said the couple who lived at the home had been sleeping next door Thursday night, and that the building was going to be prepped for summer rentals.“It was just luck that they weren’t in that house,” said Kristin Perry, who woke up to the explosion. “Boom, the house...Officials suspend search for missing boater off coast of Gloucester, identify 3 victims found the day before

Fire crews from seven area communities aided Rowley firefighters on scene at Friday’s fire, which officials said great to three alarms. The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of Friday afternoon, though officials said it did not appear suspicious.Immanuel Quickley to use Sixth Man award snub as motivation: ‘always look for stuff to continue to fuel you’

Immanuel Quickley took losing to Malcolm Brogdon in stride but vowed to forever recall the snub.“No doubt [it’s motivating],”Quickley said. “When I didn’t make All-Rookie, that was something that fueled me. So you always look for stuff to continue to fuel you and continue to help you get better. So that’ll be one thing that I’ll always remember for the rest of my career.”Quickley finished second to Celtics point guard in the Sixth Man of the Year voting that was announced Thursday. It was more lopsided than expected, with Brogdon nearly doubling Quickley’s first-place votes (60-34).Part of the PR push for Brogdon was Quickley’s games played as a starter (21), which theoretically diminishes a candidacy for a reserve award. Brogdon made all of his appearances off the bench.Quickley noted that previous winners— including Lamar Odom (2011), Aaron McKie (2001), Jamal Crawford (2014), Kevin McHale (1985) and Manu Ginoboli (...Movie review: ‘Chevalier’ fails to convey scope of composer’s fascinating life

It’s a striking image — a young Black man, dressed in 18th-century French fashion, in a waistcoat and silk breeches, his hair braided in cornrows, holding a violin, the bow slung over his shoulder, the title “Chevalier” emblazoned below his feet. This movie poster almost looks like a Kehinde Wiley portrait, a radical reassertion of tradition, a disruption of the narrative we’ve been sold. This is a story that’s been crushed under the brutal wheel of history, war and racism, and the film “Chevalier,” about the composer and violinist Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, promises to unfurl this lost story in modern, exciting fashion. The lauded young actor Kelvin Harrison Jr. plays Joseph Bologne, a role seemingly tailor-made for the actor and musician raised in New Orleans. Bologne, the son of a French plantation owner and a young Senegalese enslaved woman, was born on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe and educated in France. He was a talented musician, composer and fencer, for...‘Protect home court’: Heat look to regain momentum in Game 3 vs. Bucks

The Heat went to Milwaukee hoping to take one game from the top-seeded Bucks. They accomplished that, winning Game 1.An opportunity presented itself to come back home up 2-0 with Milwaukee star Giannis Antetokounmpo missing Game 2 with a back injury, but instead the Bucks rolled to a dominant 138-122 win. Now the series comes to Miami for two games where the Heat will try to seize control of the five remaining games, starting with Game 3 at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Kaseya Center.“We did what we were supposed to do. We got one, split on the road,” forward Max Strus said. “Now it’s important to take care of home court. It will be a big game [Saturday]. We’re looking forward to getting back out there and redeeming ourselves after last game.”But getting back into the rhythm that Miami showed in Game 1 will be easier said than done. Even without Antetokounmpo in Game 2, the Bucks still dominated the Heat with their size. Bobby Portis had 13 points ...Max Scherzer accepted his 10-game suspension because it’s what is best for the Mets

SAN FRANCISCO — Max Scherzer was just trying to get a grip.Scherzer’s decision to accept the 10-game suspension that came from his ejection in Los Angeles doesn’t mean he’s admitting to guilt. Scherzer has vehemently denied any wrongdoing and is extremely frustrated that he is being suspended 10 games for using too much rosin during the Mets’ series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday. Accepting the suspension is simply what’s best for the Mets.“I’m going to follow what the Mets want me to do and that’s accept the suspension and come to a settlement with them,” Scherzer said Thursday at Oracle Park in San Francisco. “I came to a settlement with MLB on what the fine should be and I move forward.”The amount of rosin Scherzer used was deemed excessive, and a statement released by MLB seemed to dispute Scherzer’s notion that he only used rosin. It’s all a mess that Scherzer and the Mets a...Early morning fire destroys wing of Idaho high school

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — An early morning fire destroyed part of a large high school in the southern Idaho city of Pocatello on Friday. No one was injured in the fire, but Pocatello Fire Department Assistant Chief Shane Grow said one wing of Highland High School was completely destroyed. The wing housed the school’s cafeteria, gymnasium, choir and band rooms, and it had severe structural damage including a collapsed roof.Still, the Pocatello School District said in a memo to parents that it appears the fire doors between the other wings of the school operated properly, preventing the fire from spreading. It’s not yet clear how much smoke and water damage occurred to the rest of the school, but at least two other wings have “significant water on the floor surface,” the district said.“We wish we could have saved the entire school but feel good that we’ve kept the fire from spreading to the other wings,” Grow said. The fire was reported just before 4 a.m., and when firefighters arriv...Two people stabbed, injured at Dene High School in La Loche, Sask., mayor says
